The Life Models’ Society was formed in 1989 when a group of models decided to organise in order to advocate for better pay and conditions for people working as life models in Melbourne.

Since then, we have continued to work to increase understanding of life modelling as work deserving recognition and respect.

While we began as just a few individuals, we now have a membership of about 200 models, mostly based in Melbourne but also throughout Victoria. We continue to be by models, for models.

We are a volunteer-led organisation with an elected committee of up to 9 people.

We provide training to people interested in life modelling, whether they are brand new to it, or coming to our collective from years of experience elsewhere. All our members must complete this training before being invited to join the LMS.

This means all LMS member models have the same foundation level of knowledge whether they are new to the profession or new to the LMS.

Although the LMS is not a booking agency, we maintain a list of active and trained LMS member models based predominantly in Melbourne and parts of regional Victoria.

Artists and venues may become financial subscribers to the list of models upon agreement to uphold our Working Conditions and will then receive regular newsletters including regular updates to the model list.

The LMS became an incorporated entity registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria in 2020. Our AGM is generally held in August.
The LMS has had an ABN since 2021.
